A work in progress.

This was originally for a uni project, but I just handed it in today.

Run away from the laser and watch out for the red rectangle-looking insects (hey, I did say work in progress, didn't I?). When I have the time, the enemies will vary from turrets, land mines and spiders, to a crazy guy that throws jelly (ie, jello for you Americans) at you.

Also, the sound effects and music are placeholders that I coded in with about an hour left before it was due in, so forgive me if they are absolutely terrible at the moment. Also had to write 3 pages of documentation on the game and another page on the code, all done at the very last minute :P

I'll eventually turn this into an app available on Android, iOS and probably Mac OS. Once it is finished, I'll offer it for free first, then if it is a success, I'll charge 99c for it.

Hmm, just noticed on my PC that the font needs to be embedded. Play on a Mac for the correct font :P Here's my best score.

Do you have Flash Player installed? The main menu requires keyboard input to navigate (mouse isn't used at all actually - apart from initially to give the Flash module keyboard focus).

not really you'll just need to speed up the wall the longer you run. check out the flash games "flood runner" 1 and 3. its a bit like this, i think its really fun becouse it doesnt have incepts but thats my opinion. this game is amazing!

You're probably right. I was going to have a whole range of different creepy crawlies like giant spiders and a random guy that chases you and throws stuff at you but I ran out of time to implement those mechanics.

Basically, the idea was you kept running at a fixed speed and the environment changed around you according to random events (starts raining flaming meatballs or the bottom platforms get flooded with mayonnaise, etc), so the flesh eating insects were meant to be part of a "wave" instead of constant.

I had some little focus problem at first (I had to click on the game again for no reason) but then it worked fine when I only had to die and hit try again :D

342m is my best shot, damn insect !! ^^

I think there is a way in AS3 to force the "stage" to have keyboard focus, so I'll implment that in the next version. First, I gotta sort out the damn collision handler :P

Thanks :) I had a long time to work on the physics and platform spawning, but the menu system and sounds, well I only had a few days to create and implement them. Sounds being done in the last hour hehe.

Make sure the SWF has stage focus (ie, you click on it) and try pressing all of the arrow keys one by one.

That ain't good :(

Was it the first few times you tried it and it didn't work? As in, did it work at all before it stopped working?

Very neat! All the gameplay mechanics seem solid, would be neat if a jump/falling animation was added O.-

One bug I think I've noticed so far was on platforms that were close together and parallel to each other (Just like =) If I were on the lower platform, jump and "hit my head" on the upper platform, instead of landing on the lower platform I would fall through, only time it seems to happen though.

Got to ~400m, and also a proud owner of -8m, if this dude runs roughly 8m a second, this is one fast guy!

Hahah, yeah. I ran out of time to make a jump animation before the deadline, and if I submitted it even 30 seconds late I'd lose 20% of my marks, so yeah. Submitted with 10 minutes left :P

That "hit your head and fall through the platform below" bug has been bothering me too. It is something I'll definitely need to fix. My platform collision handling code is so horrible to look at. One of these days I'll probably need to change back from the predictive method to a more performance friendly method that calculates it on collision. From there, I'll see if the bug still exists.

Well, the world record is about 48km/h or so. The best 100m sprinters get an average of ~35km/h. Parkour Dan is only doing ~29km/h, so although he is running pretty damn fast, it is within the realms of possibility :P That's assuming it takes a second for him to run the -8m. Might be a bit less than that.

Just did the calculation. He is meant to move 4px every frame (60 frames per second), and there are 30px to 1m, so:

4 * 60 = 240px/s
240 / 30 = 8m/s

It would take him 12.5 seconds to do a 100m sprint, which is "not bad", but real sprinters do 10-11. Of course, Parkour Dan is in more of an endurance situation here :)

Haha, wish I could edit, deviant transformed my sentence a bit, should read:
"were close together and parallel to each other (Just like an equal sign ( = ) If I were on the lower platform..."
