New Apple Keyboard by muckSponge New Apple Keyboard by muckSponge
Apple's new wireless keyboard. It will be released on the same date as the upcoming Mac OS X 10.7 operating system.

Hmm, I'm no good at lieing. This here is what I wish my Apple keyboard looked like. I just can't understand why they chose white keys instead of black ones.

Took around 280 layers and 5 hours in Photoshop (manually modified each key's symbol to match up exactly with the white keyboard). Everything is vector except the reflection at the bottom (couldn't be bothered copying and pasting another 275 layers just for a reflection - too much RAM is at stake :D), and the noise is also just generated by the filter. My PC is not powerful enough to make vector noise, which is just lots of randomly placed circles. I tried doing that and it froze up after I covered half the keyboard. Maybe I should have used Illustrator, but then I don't know how to use it.

A note to anyone out there: If you have an Apple wireless keyboard or an Apple keyboard with no numpad, please take a key off and show me what the key slot looks like. I'm going to see if a set of MacBook Pro keys fits in there but I don't know if they have the same slots :)

The answer to your question: Because Apple is GREEDY & OPPORTUNISTIC, by releasing a white & silver keyboard which over TEN YEARS OLD, they make royalty fees, from companies that sell skins covers for their keyboard.

They don't feel as good as real keys though. They make it all spongy to press.

You put a lots of work to draw this one, not sure what for?

P.S. I think Microsoft Arc Keyboard [link] looks better and is more ergonomic.

good.good it looks great but the up/down button I dislike somehow maybe b/c I like separated buttons.
Maybe having a - all black back-lite keyboard would look good as well.

I'd have to study the LED light placement that Apple uses on their keyboards and fit it to mine. I always try and get the most authentic look, you see :P

I would if it existed. I will be trying to "make" one soon though. I just need a wired keyboard without the numeric keypad, which is amazingly hard to find.

It is curved, I can't use a curved keyboard or I will have to poke my eyes out (I am very fussy :O).

Good job, really, I wish apple could make keyboards with Windows layouts...can't stand their layout, especially for working.

It's awful for programming :)
And as it's my job, I can't imagine using that thing ^^

I write CSS with it :D Most of the CSS you find in Stratiform was written 100% on my Apple keyboard using Wordpad. Yeah, I'm old skool :dummy:

I could troll you saying that CSS is actually not programming, same goes for HTML. ;D

But you would be wrong :D It is programming, but it isn't very hard to learn :P The same principal applies though, you write a huge amount of code until your fingers bleed and then you go have a nap or watch TV until they can continue typing again :)

Not really, as HTML isn't actually programming too.
But, it can be considered as coding.

The difference is, programming requires algorithms and logic while HTML and CSS both don't require any of those.

Not the same principal, writing 1000 lines of CSS is normal for a website, writing 1000 lines of real code is wrong, except if you're actually writing a library or something like that :D

D: I come from Albania, and in Albania, coding and programming are the same thing.

(Good save SpewBoy, too bad your country is set to Australia)

Just wondering... is it easy to map the Command () to Ctrl?

I have used [dual-booted] Windows on a Mac computer, and I continually used Command (⌘) instead of Control. Problem was, Command (⌘) maps to either Alt or Win on the Windows layout... :O [link]

There is a way via bootcamp. I think it gives you an option to use your command key as you would with the ctrl key.

Being insane occupies a large chunk of my time, you see. I was talking to someone and they were arguing that the white keyboard looked good, and I told them if they saw an actual black keyboard and looked back at their white one, they would cry. So naturally, I had to make a black keyboard so they could look at it and see what they were missing out on.

Personally I think it'd be cooler if the color scheme were reversed; white keys on black. !@#$ aluminum. But I'm a Metro lover so what do I know :\

Anyway, this looks nice (idea wise IMO; execution wise, it's superb). I hope your quest works out for you.

White keys on black would look a tad too much like a piano for me. Black on aluminium is Apple's standard at the moment, so I'm not sure why they have white on aluminium. The only things that are white on aluminium are the keyboards. All other peripherals are white and all computers are either all white or black on aluminium.

Mm, okay. Well white IS the Apple standard. Outside of the iOS devices and some special computers, everything is either mostly white or mostly aluminum, so they may have decided to combine the two. I think it actually gives it a distinctly Apple look (but that's probably because they haven't made a keyboard like this >.>).

Well, my point was that peripherals and computers (indeed everything) used to be white, with the one exception of MacBook Pros and PowerBooks (a few more exceptions if we count black MacBooks and really early Apple stuff) up until 2007 (I think), when Apple introduced the keyboard, the only peripheral and non-MBP to ever have aluminium. So this keyboard was non-standard from the start. In 2008, Apple updated its line of MBs and MBPs to be aluminium and from then on, all iMacs, iPods, iPhones, MBPs and Mac Pros have been black on aluminium and it has been that way since 2008-ish. So it would make perfect sense for them to update their keyboard to be just like the rest of their products. Because Apple is done with "white is right". Black is back, and it is only a matter of time before peripherals will be aluminium and black. And if not, Apple's keyboard will be the only thing they have ever made to be white and aluminium. If they followed their current design scheme it would either be black on aluminium or white on white. At the moment, it doesn't fit anywhere.

Ah. I don't follow Apple's history (I first heard of the iPhone days before the 3rd generation launch). Then yes, it would make sense for it to be black on aluminum.

Found this set, btw. [link]

Seems like MBP keys use multiple parts, but the site's listing for the regular keyboards' keys are just the key pieces... so I'm not sure if they're the same.
